Mr. John D. "Jack" Scott

A mass of Christian burial for 76 year old Mr. John D. “Jack” Scott will be held on Friday, August 10th at 10 am at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Louisville, NY with Rev. Donald Manfred celebrant. Burial will follow the service at the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9. Mr. Scott passed away on Tuesday, August 7th at the residence of his daughter in the town of Louisville.

Jack is survived by his wife Marjorie of Louisville; his mother Ann Scott of Potsdam; daughters Diane (Frank) Shantie of Madrid, Joanne (Robert) Cameron of Louisville and Susan (Phil) Sawyer; brothers Robert Scott of West Stockholm and Alton Scott of Florida; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Lauren Scott Sr., his brother Lauren Scott Jr. and his sisters Mary Bunstone and Lorraine Jones.

Mr. John D. “Jack” Scott was born December 26, 1935 in Potsdam, NY to Lauren and Ann Murray Scott. He grew up on the family Dairy farm on the South Canton Road. He was a graduate of Potsdam Central School. While in high school he excelled and lettered in football, hockey and track. He then went on to Canton ATC. On August 6, 19 55 at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY he was married to Marjorie Gaines with Rev. Joseph Tierney celebrant.

Jack worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years for Gaines Construction, drove school bus for Potsdam Central School for a few years, drove truck for Potsdam Feed and Coal for a few years, and he had his own dairy business in Potsdam delivery goods around for a few years. He then went to work for the St. Lawrence Seaway and remained there for 28 years until his retirement.

Jack was very active in the community. He coached many T-Ball teams as well as many boys and girls hockey teams in Louisville. He was a past chief of the Louisville Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the AMVETS in Louisville, the American Legion in Norfolk, a former member of the Lion’s Club, a member of the St. Lawrence Church and was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling and going to camp. He loved hanging out with his hunting buddies. He really enjoyed working with the children in the Louisville community but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
