Frederick Wright Jr., age 57, of Potsdam New York passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, surrounded by his family after long and heroic battle to Small Cell Carcinoma. Fred fought this disease for several months just to spend as much time as he could with his family knowing that in the end this type of cancer was designed to come back meaner and more aggressive every time. No matter how much pain Fred was going through; he put on a brave face, masked his pain and conquered each day with a bold attitude.
Fred was born on November 19, 1966, to Sally (Sharlow) and Fred Wright Sr. in Canandaigua, New York.
Fred is survived by his Wife Vicky Wright; his children Jason (Sarah) Wright of Potsdam, Christopher (Mary) Wright of Colton, Brittany (Jeffery) Bonner of South Colton and Terry Green Jr (Lori Muller) of Brasher; Brothers Lee (Wendy) Wright of Massena, and Mike (Mary) Wright of Webster; Sisters Patricia Ramsey of Brasher, Penny Dowdle of Potsdam, and Karen Andrews of Potsdam; Previous wife Nancyellen Mitchell of Potsdam. Last but certainly first, he is survived by his grandchildren, Connor, Cooper, Halleigh, and Mayson. The love and admiration that Fred had for his family was nothing short of remarkable.
Fred is predeceased by his parents and his sister Carol Smith.
Fred is an avid outdoorsman and never passed up an opportunity to shoot a deer, trap a beaver, or catch a fish. Fred not only taught his family the secrets to the outdoors, but he also shared his experience and guidance with many friends. Fred enjoyed spending money on guns because he wanted to ensure his kids and grandkids would forever be protected even when he was gone.
It is quite known that Fred’s most valued possessions in his life was his family. He enjoyed family dinners, ATV riding, fishing trips, hunting, and many more outdoors activities. It didn’t matter how he spent his time as long as it was with his family.
Fred worked for St. Lawrence University for 23 years as a custodian until he retired early due to his illness. Fred spent the last few months of his journey living in the moment and used every opportunity he had to spend it with his loved ones, he embraced others with a smile on his face and love in his heart.
A celebration of life for Fred will be Saturday November 2, 2024, at 1:00pm at the Pierrepont Fire Hall in Pierrepont, New York. Fred would want people to join his family in honoring his life by eating good food, laughing with friends, and smiling at the stories that will be shared in remembrance of him.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Cancer Treatment Center in Ogdensburg or to an animal shelter of choice.
