Bruce James Henderson, 64 passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 2, 2018. Bruce was born September 4, 1953 in Potsdam, NY. The son of the late John and Pauline Henderson.
He graduated from Potsdam Central School in 1972 where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He then graduated from Clinton College in 1974 with a degree in Business Management where he also lettered as a member of the soccer team.
Bruce married his treasured wife Diann Lynn Drake at Methodist Church, Nicholville, NY on September 9, 1978.
He worked 22 years in the construction industry for Higley Builders in Potsdam from 1974 to 1996. He then worked at Clarkson University in the Athletic Dept from 1996 to 2002. In 2002 till his retirement in 2017, he served as the Superintendent of Public Works for the Village of Potsdam.
He loved golf, wood working, and enjoyed fishing at his summer cottage on Lake Ozonia. He was an avid cross country skier twice completing the 50km Loppet Marathon Race at Lake Placid, NY.
Bruce is survived by his wife Diann, Hannawa Falls, NY, his son Kyle (Tonya), East Dickinson, NY and his daughter Katie (Matt Majocka), Imperial, PA and grandson Kody, sister Barbara (David) Bauman, Anderson, GA, brothers; Fred (Bonnie) West Potsdam, NY, Gary, Silver Springs, MD, Richard (Bonnie) Rapid City, SD, David (Patricia), Chaumont, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, step father Wayne Spearance, sisters Carol Sherwin, Brenda, and brother Daniel.
There will be no call hours and burial will be private at a later date. Please join in celebrating the life of Bruce on Saturday, June 9th at the Potsdam Town & Country Club anytime between 2pm and 6pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to the PCS Booster Club.
