William Richard Stewart

Bill Stewart died peacefully in his residence at Courtyard Mt. Tabor on Monday April 17, 2023. Born in San Francisco, California, he attended several different schools in Oregon as his parents moved about. Bill graduated from Baker High School, he then entered the Army to serve in World War II, fighting in the South Pacific until VJ Day. Upon returning to civilian life he met and married his wife of 63 years, Jean Elizabeth Stewart.

Bill and his business partner Frank Tunno ran a busy independent insurance agency in the Gateway District until Bill’s retirement in 1990. Bill was a lifelong athlete, and a longtime member of the Multnomah Athletic Club. He was also a Shriner, a Rotarian, and a Royal Rosarian. He spent his retirement traveling and fishing, until suffering a stroke in 2006. He remained active and engaged in the world and the people around him for the remainder of his life. Loved and remembered by many, he forgot no one.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Elizabeth, and his daughter, Jann Elizabeth Jasperse (Ken). He is survived by his son Matthew (Teresa).

The memorial service will be held at 2pm Thursday May 18th 2023 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4033 SE Woodstock Blvd, Portland, OR 97202. Donations may be made in Bill’s name to All Saints Episcopal Church, or to your favorite charity.
