She was born in Alameda, Calif., on January 31, 1951, to Raymond & Rosa Boyer and was raised in their home in Fremont, Calif., with her sisters Jullie & Peggie.
Vickie graduated from Irvington High in 1969. Before graduating Cum Laude from Humboldt State University in Arcata with a Bachelor’s degree in Music, she attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., where she met her future husband, Gilbert Hargreaves.
The couple were married in Portland in 1976 and moved later that year to Klamath Falls, Ore, where she gave birth to her first son, Edward. She worked in Klamath Falls as a Loan Officer for Security Savings and Loan.
The couple later moved to Pendleton, Ore., where she gave birth to her second son, Raymond, in 1985. While living in Klamath Falls and Pendleton, Vickie was an active supporter and volunteer with The Salvation Army church, where she taught Sunday School and directed the church choir, which she chaperoned on two trips to Disneyland after winning divisional competitions.
She lived her last three decades in Salem, Ore., starting in 1988. She worked as a Classroom & Instructional Assistant in the Salem-Keizer School District, volunteered with the Morningside Park Partnership and was an advocate for Salem’s neighborhood parks. She was an avid fan of classical music, and played the flute in the Salem Concert Band. She also played her flute and arranged music for services at Capital Park Wesleyan Church, where she was a staple in the church family. As a dedicated Christian, she loved reading her Bible and started a Bible Study at Prestige Senior Living Southern Hills, where she spent the final year of her life.
Vickie was a sweet, encouraging, and faithful woman with a servant’s heart and a great sense of humor. Everywhere she went, she made lifelong friends, who were the recipients of her generous friendship, beautiful hand-made cards, and unique tabloid-parody Christmas newsletters.
She was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2004 and was given just a few years to live. But she defied those predictions and fought on for nearly 20 more years.
She was a devoted wife and mother, who always supported her sons’ creative endeavors and would travel many miles for their various performances. She deeply loved her husband, Gil, and cherished their 39-year marriage until his sudden death in 2014. In his honor, she helped create the Gil Hargreaves Alumni Scholarship at Linfield University.
She is survived by her sons Edward & Raymond, sister Peggie Huff in Nampa, Idaho, mother Rosa Scarborough in Emmett, Idaho, and numerous nephews and nieces.
