It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tolulope Oyetunde, a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and advocate for others, who left this world on October 4th, 2024 at the young age of 30, after a courageous battle with cancer. Though her time with us was far too short, Tolu lived a life overflowing with love, laughter, and purpose.
Born on May 4, 1994 in Lagos, Nigeria, Tolu was a vivacious soul who radiated joy and positivity. She grew up surrounded by family and friends in Oregon who adored her boundless energy and infectious smile. From an early age, Tolu had an extraordinary ability to light up any room, whether through her humor, her thoughtful gestures, or her incredible zest for life.
Tolu was a dedicated scholar with a passion for learning. She excelled academically, earning her Bachelor's degree from Portland State, and later, two masters degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Her academic achievements were just one reflection of her deep commitment to making a difference in the world, particularly in the lives of youth. She was especially passionate about public health and devoted herself to supporting underserved communities, always striving to create a healthier, more equitable world for the next generation.
Her love for service was rivaled only by her love for people. Tolu had a natural ability to connect with others, offering her heart and a listening ear to anyone in need. She was the kind of person who never hesitated to help—whether through her work or in her personal life. Her compassion and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. She found her greatest joy in lifting others up, especially the young people she mentored and inspired through various community programs.
Outside of her professional life, Tolu was known for her infectious love of cooking and hosting gatherings. She found joy in preparing meals that brought her loved ones together, and her kitchen was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the delicious aroma of her culinary creations. Whether it was a casual weeknight dinner or an elaborate celebration, Tolu made every occasion special with her talent for making people feel at home.
In addition to her love for food and entertaining, Tolu was a woman who knew how to have a good time. She was always the first to start the dance party, plan a spontaneous road trip, or share an adventurous story. Her vivacious spirit was contagious, and those who knew her will forever cherish the memories of her boundless energy and infectious laughter.
Tolu leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service. Her strength, courage, and unwavering dedication to others will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that her light will continue to shine through the many lives she touched.
She is survived by her loving mother, father, and brother as well as countless friends and colleagues who were blessed to know her. Tolu will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Rest in peace, dear Tolu. You were a gift to this world, and your light will never fade.
