Thomas Michael Cooper

Thomas “Tom” Michael Cooper of Portland, Oregon passed away Monday, May 1, 2023 at the age of 84. He was born in Portland, Oregon to Robert and Mildred Cooper, July 6, 1939.

Tom graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1956 and lived his whole life in the Portland area. His working career centered around selling of industrial gears and chains. When not working, he enjoyed family, fishing, and boating trips as often as possible.

Retirement in 2010 at almost 72 years old was an adjustment, but it afforded him time to pursue his golfing interest, grandchildren weekend sporting events and the usual yard work. He was very devoted to his faith and helping the St. Rita Parish as much as he could. If time allowed, he would take his truck down to help transport food at one of the local food banks. He also religiously donated to several charities that touched his heart, hoping to make a difference for those in need.

Tom met and married Barbara Cooper (Clark) on January 26, 1962 and were blessed with three children, Theresa Carey-Brill married to husband Matt Brill, Robert (Bob), who preceded him in death May 18, 2019, and Lynn Tigard, married to husband Charles Tigard. Tom is also survived by three granddaughters; Melissa Carey, Megan Brill, and Abigail Cooper.

A funeral mass for Thomas will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Rita Catholic Church, 10029 NE Prescott St., Portland, OR 97220. Following the funeral mass will be a committal service at 2:00 PM at Rose City Cemetery, 5625 NE Fremont St., Portland, OR 97213.
