Steven Foster Conroy

Steven Forrester Conroy was born on October 9th, 1959, in Portland Oregon through the union of Rick F. Stoudmire and Catherine Miller. Steven was the 4th Child of 6.

Known as “Big Steve”, Dad, Uncle Stevie, and affectionally Wee-Wee by his baby Sister Renee.

Steve graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle, WA, class of “78”. He was proud to be a Bulldog!!!

While attending Garfield he was an active and pretty decent soccer player, He seriously thought he was the new age Pele.

He did a few years of college at Seattle Central Community College, while working in the hospital food services for Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.

He relocated back to Portland in the mid 80’s and made Portland his permanent home.

He was a highlight reel for every event, especially when dancing or singing was on tap. He could really move that body to a great beat or belt out a great song; he could sang y’all!!!! He loved to make you laugh, from swinging his head back as if to flip his hair or his most famous words were “HONEY” or Mannnnnnnnn, before he provided you with some wisdom or corrective thoughts from his endless safe of charms.

His work journey in the food industry began decades ago, starting out making pizza during his last year of high school then becoming a Sous Chef at Red Lobster. He even prepared food trays for the airline industry.

Steve’s greatest love though was cooking. He was destined to feed people. He was a chef for Nike and enjoyed prepping and creating daily meals for employees. Most importantly the children of the daycare at Nike he loved the most. He even created cooking classes for the toddler children teaching them the basics of food prep.

He was called to help with big social events and family events too; just keep the cumin out!! 😊 He completed his work life as a chef at Providence Elders Place.

He also dabbled in a little of the meet and greet too, when he was a door man for the Hilton Hotel in downtown Portland.

Steve was well known for his dedication to his church family and being an active servant for the Lord. He was constantly volunteering and assisting in the various church feeding programs, from collecting bread and other food items, to delivery and preparation at large church related social events.

Steve loved his family dearly. From his mother Catherine to his five other siblings, Theresa, James, Michael, Renee and Joseph. He would always do his best to be present for all things involving family, whether it be daycare, babysitter, attending family dinners, gatherings, or various football game parties, he’d be there. He wouldn’t hesitate to jump on I-5 North driving back and forth to Seattle to support his nephews, great nephews, and others. He was always an advocate for his family.

Lastly, he was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the University of Washington Huskies, and the Portland Trailblazers. He was not a fair-weather fan and would argue you up and down about any of those teams regardless of their record!!! 😊

Steven is survived by his 4 children, Lori Ann, Andre, Brittany, and Mychael Anthony and his 7 grandchildren, Ari, Jaden, Maliyah, Kennedy, Emery, Kaaliyah, and Kaazhari.

Steve is also survived by a full host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and relatives and friends….

As we say our final earthly goodbyes to our dear Brother, Father, Uncle, and good friend…Steve’s presence and inspiration extended not just to family but beloved friends and co-workers alike.

We will hold the vast memories we have with Steven in our hearts…finding solace in the love he shared with us, and all who knew him. May he now lay in forever peace and eternal grace.

A visitation for Steven will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary, 6801 SW Sunset Hwy, Portland, OR 97225.

A second visitation will occur Sunday, December 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary, 6801 SW Sunset Hwy, Portland, OR 97225.

Steven will be laid to rest in Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 6801 SW Sunset Hwy, Portland, OR 97225 in the Garden of Apostles.
