Robert Thomas Noonan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 7, 1938 to Joseph and Kathleen Noonan. He was raised in Ohio with his two siblings, Jack and Mary. Bob received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati in 1964. He went on to work as an attorney for the federal government in Washington D.C., with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Bob also served in the United States Army for four years.
In 1986, Bob exchanged wedding vows with Elaine Bernasconi in Virginia. The couple moved to Oregon and enjoyed retirement together. Bob was an avid tennis player, hiker, and enjoyed traveling.
Bob was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, and attended St. Ignatius after moving to the Portland area. He volunteered his time delivering food for the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and also at the Veterans Administration Hospital, where he enjoyed listening to the stories the veterans had to share. Bob gave a great deal of himself to contribute to making the world a better place.
Bob passed away on August 8, 2011 in Portland. He was 73 years old. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; children, Robert Noonan, Jr., Charles Noonan, Bridgit Avon, and Joe Noonan; brother, Jack Noonan; sister, Mary Ryan; seven grandchildren; and many close friends. A memorial mass to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 13, 2011 in Saint Ignatius Parish. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Bob’s name to:
