Phyllis attended grade and middle school in Molalla, then moved to Arcata, California where she met Orin “Bud” Rutherford. They were united in marriage on August 5, 1953 in Eureka, CA. They then returned to Oregon and settled in Forest Grove.
Phyllis enjoyed the sun and getting out in the warm weather. She spent many summers working as a field boss in the strawberry fields for Krahmer Farms. However, she was forever recognized around the area from her time at Hank’s Supercenter in Cornelius. She spent over 20 years with Hank’s.
Phyllis was an avid bowler, she participated in numerous leagues and tournaments, even triumphing over a professional bowler in one memorable competition. Her competitive spirit and love for the game endeared her to fellow bowlers and left an enduring legacy in the local bowling community.
After her retirement, Phyllis and Bud became snowbirds. They purchased a large RV and traveled the country seeking refuge from Oregon winters. Eventually, in 2001, they purchased a home in Yuma, AZ.
She is survived by her children, Steve Rutherford (Joan) and Leann Davis (David); her sister Elaine Boge (Eldon); her grandchildren, great grandson and a host of Godchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Phyllis was a cherished member of a large and loving family that provided a foundation of support and friendship throughout her life.
Phyllis Rutherford is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bud Rutherford, and her parents, Ernest and Zelma Lonkey. As we bid farewell to Phyllis, let us remember her as a woman of kindness, thoughtfulness and a zest for life that touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she find eternal peace in the loving embrace of God and in the company of her departed loved ones.
