Paul Roy Bill Koester

When someone is identified as a natural leader, certain images come to mind. First thoughts are of a no-nonsense, tough-minded, dedicated and disciplined person. This description accurately fits Paul Roy Bill Koester who was indeed a born manager. He will be remembered as being highly organized, practical and realistic. He was a person who always carried a strong sense of duty with him throughout his life. Paul Koester, 86, of Portland passed on April 18, 2014 peacefully at his home, with his family by his side. He was born in Burlington, Iowa to Emil and Anna Maria Koester. Paul thoroughly enjoyed being a part of community groups such as the Gateway Elks, Shriners, and Toastmasters. He also enjoyed politics, traveling, outdoors and dancing. Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lincoln, in 1980. He is survived by his second wife, Shirley Koester; children Nancy Webster and Mark Koester; and he shared his life with Michelle Queen, Kerry Neffendorf, Janelle Snoderly, as well as 9 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. All who knew him would agree that Paul was a pillar of the community. He lived his life with his feet firmly on the ground. He had a strong work ethic, was pragmatic in his thoughts and acts, and constantly sought the means for self-improvement. He was willing to share his ideas and knowledge for the benefit of others, so that they could accomplish more in their lives. He truly will be missed.
