Patrick J. Mulligan was born in Portland, OR, to Joseph E. and Dorothy A. Mulligan. He attended Grant and Jefferson High Schools, graduated from Portland State University in 1971 and continued educating himself and others throughout his life. Some may remember him as an acolyte at St. Michael’s & All Angels church. Always an aviation guy, and a 2nd Lieutenant in the Oregon Air National Guard, he managed the Troutdale Airport back in the 1960’s and often visited Evergreen Air and Space Museum. He volunteered for the state to inspect rural airports on his travels throughout Oregon. He will be remembered for his powerful handshake, intelligence, generosity and thoughtfulness, giving love and knowledge unconditionally, business sense and integrity, and love of the three P’s (Progress, Problems and Plans). He and his wife, Kathleen, built Mulligan & Associates which provided service in the wildland fire industry and fire education for the railroad maintenance industry. Patrick was an inspiration and mentor to many and held many of his business associates as close friends. He loved working with everyone in the US Forest Service, Oregon Department of Forestry, BLM, Type One Incident Support, Aero Tech, Ice Flares, Columbia Helicopters, Howard Cooper, KMC/Kootney Tractor, SEI, US Infrared, Cascade Fire, Washington DNR and many Washington city fire districts, many Fire Industry Companies, The Pack Shack, Mackenzie and Harrell Ranches, Canby Emergency Response Team and Medical Teams International. More I am sure…so don’t feel like I left anyone out on purpose! Patrick enjoyed working and planning most of all, visiting his favorite place on Tustumena Lake in Alaska, golfing and taking a mulligan on every hole, and attending athletic and musical events with all the kids he collected. He was such a great second father and “extra” grandpa to: Pat C., Nathan and Josh, Tiffany, Lisa, Sierra, Dustin, Gabe, Michael and Elena, CJ, Denis and Rose, Joshua, Rachel, Moses, Elijah, Chris, Zoe, Gabriel, Emma, Jose, America, Yamile, Giovanni, Jonathan, Jesus, Junior, Will, Mitchell, Chase, Jesse, Angela, Tyler, Sierra, Hailey, Josh, Kaity, Duncan, Maggie, Dan, Tanya and many more throughout all the years. His favorite K-9s were Tank and Sosa. He is survived by his team-player Kathleen, children (Sheila, Vicki, Tom, Todd and Kathy), numerous grandchildren, twin brother Michael (Ruth), nephews David, Jim, and Sean (Laura). At his request no formal services will be arranged, and in lieu of flowers please celebrate like you wish or toast to him as you know he loved Beefeater’s Gin, NEAT, with a twist of lemon. Favorite Quotes: “Chance Favors Only The Prepared Mind” John LeCarre “He who hoots with the owls, can’t fly with the eagles at dawn” unknown Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. (They fly like helicopters as Patrick would say) The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.
