She attended St. Mary's High School, and after graduation went to the University of Alberta, graduating with a BSM in Nursing with an emphasis on Nursing Education.
Patricia also attained degrees in Education and Nursing from the University of Portland, after which she enjoyed a robust teaching career at Good Samaritan Medical Center School of Nursing, and became Dean when the school merged with Linfield College to become Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing.
Patricia was blessed with a large family after marrying her true love, Edward Hough on April 22, 1952.
In addition to her extensive career and family achievements, Patricia enjoyed many hobbies and interests. She was an accomplished pianist, and music always played a large part in her life. She was an avid reader, and a devoted volunteer with both hospice, and the many Catholic Parishes of which she was a part. She very much enjoyed volunteering at the Northwest Catholic Counseling Center until her health began to fail.
Patricia is pre-deceased by her parents, Giles and Nellie MacDonald; husband Edward Hough, and sister, Therese Hergott.
She is mourned by her daughters, Mary Therese Marcy, and Shauna Kathleen Ruscitti (Patrick); brothers Hugh M. MacDonald (Olive), and Doctor Fred MacDonald (Mary Anne); grandchildren Randy Hancock (Nicole), David Marcy (Mandy), Domonique Ruscitti (Tony Cannard), James Michael Lee (Rachel Drushella), Rachael Hélène Lee; great-grandchildren Addison, Aiden, Asher, Trinity, and Anthony; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Rosary will be held at 10:00am, Thursday April 7, 2016 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 10029 NE Prescott St., Portland, Oregon 97220, with Mass to follow at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Northwest Catholic Counseling Center or a charity of your choice.
And so, despite the emptiness, honor the void
in tribute to what once was;
Bless the pain, as proof it was real and
Light a candle of prayer in the quiet chapel of your soul
to dispel this hour's darkness.
And only when you are ready, let go of even this.
Do not be afraid. I shall live on in your heart
as you do in mine
and as we do in God's.
