Olivia Byers, born on January 18, 1938, in Zapata, Texas, entered eternal rest on November 22, 2024. Raised in Laredo, Texas, she was the cherished daughter of Jose Manuel Garcia and Josefa Gutierrez. Olivia's life was a vibrant testament to her unwavering dedication and passion for those she loved, a life deeply rooted in faith.
In December 1967, Olivia's life took a joyful turn when she met Robert R. Byers at a dance hall in San Antonio, Texas. Together, they built a home in Oregon that was a sanctuary of warmth and kindness, a reflection of their shared values and deep commitment to each other.
Olivia thrived in her career in accounting, demonstrating excellence until her retirement at age 62. Even after retiring, she continued to apply her accounting skills by volunteering as a money counter at her church. Her professional life was marked by integrity and diligence, qualities that she carried into every aspect of her life. Yet, it was her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother that truly defined her. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into nurturing and supporting them, always guided by her steadfast faith.
For over 40 years, Olivia was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Beaverton, Oregon. Her nurturing spirit and selfless dedication shone brightly as she also volunteered at the church's food closet in addition to her volunteer work as a money counter, finding immense joy in serving those in need. Her faith was a guiding light, bringing peace and purpose to her spiritual journey. Olivia's commitment to her faith was not just a personal journey but a beacon of hope and love to all who knew her.
Olivia's life was a tapestry of love for gardening, sewing, embroidery, family gatherings, enjoying the beautiful changing seasons, and especially the warm sunshine. Her sewing talent shone as she crafted her own wedding dress and created a beautiful prom dress for her daughter Lisa, along with many sewing projects for her family. Olivia enjoyed casual gardening and her yard at home was always nicely kept with seasonal flowers in bloom.
Her warmth, kindness, quiet sense of humor, and wit left an indelible mark on everyone she met, spreading joy and encouragement through her simple, heartfelt gestures. Olivia had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and loved, a gift that endeared her to all who crossed her path. Her giving spirit was infectious and her love was unconditional.
