Olive Eula Wallace Girard went home to be with her Lord, and her family, on May 23, 2015 at the age of 101 years, 1 month and 28 days. She was born March 25, 1914 in Jerome, Idaho to Leroy Edmund Wallace and Bessie Leona Hopkins Wallace. In her youth, the family moved to Lake View, Oregon and later to Medford, Oregon where they began fellowship with the Apostolic Faith Church. It was there that she met her future husband, Martin Eugene Girard, whom she married in 1940. Olive and Martin (Marty) felt the call to the ministry and they began their service with the Apostolic Faith Church in Eureka, California where Marty served as pastor. Together, they were also pastors of churches in Port Angeles, Washington; Dallas, Oregon; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Roseburg, Oregon. Olive was gifted musically, and sang solos and played her violin in the church services. She was an accomplished cake decorator, clothing and upholstery seamstress, and enjoyed knitting beautiful sweaters and afghans. When they retired in 1984, Marty and Olive moved to Portland, Oregon.
Olive was blessed with a long life and used it for the Lord. In her last years, even when she could no longer sing or play an instrument, or go to church, one of her favorite things was to listen to the church services on the radio. You could see the peace on her face as she listened to those familiar songs.
Olive was preceded in death by her husband, Marty, in 1994, and all of her siblings: Lester Wallace, Orville Wallace, her twin brother Ernest Wallace, Audrey Wallace, Wilmer Wallace, Doris Wallace Trzil, and Nola Wallace Girard. What a wonderful reunion they must be having. She is survived by her sister-in-law Helen Girard of Portland, Oregon, her long-time, loving care giver, Dee Flores, and nieces Sandra Girard Springer of Kennewick, Washington, Juanita Girard Moulton of Roseburg, Oregon, Karen Stelle Meyer and Shirley Stelle Deardorff of Portland, Oregon, and Kay Wallace Brown; nephews Ron Wallace, Tom Wallace, Duane Wallace, all of Medford, Oregon, Steve Girard of Portland, Oregon and Don Wallace.
We feel blessed to have had this wonderful woman in our lives.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 29, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Apostolic Faith Church, 5601 SE Duke St., Portland, Oregon. A visitation will take place on Thursday, May 28, from 4-8 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, Oregon.
