In the 50’s, after serving in the United States Army, he moved to Oregon. He married Mary Helen Simmons in 1959 and raised a family; sadly, Mary preceded him in death in 2005.
Mike worked as a Longshoreman for Local 92 for 43 years. He worked mostly as a Walking Boss, but held other titles in his many years. He retires in 1995.
Mike belonged to the Masons, Scottish Rite, Shriners, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, where he also served as an officer for a period of time. He was very active in all Elks activities; at one of them he met Margaret Detchon. They were known as M&M by all their friends and were married on 10/10/10 in a surprise wedding with friends and family. He loved to make people laugh, was always smiling, and truly enjoyed pulling a practical joke on friends. He also enjoyed traveling, hosting parties, being with friends and family. Mike loved fishing, hunting, spending time at his vacation lake home, and spending time in their RV in the summer at Elks Park. He got a kick out of tooling around the park in his red golf cart. Mike truly enjoyed life.
Mike was a generous, kind man with a wonderful smile and a contagious laugh; he was liked by everyone that met him. It was always fun to be around him. He didn’t know a stranger.
