Melvin Gabriel Mori

1933-2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished husband, father, grandfather and uncle Melvin Gabriel Mori. Mel passed peacefully on September 25, 2024, at the age of 90. He was born on November 18, 1933 in Tacoma, WA to Dino and Thelma (Harbert) Mori.

Mel grew up in Beaverton, OR. After graduating from Beaverton High School in 1951, Mel went on to join the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War.

After his service, Mel married Sylvia (Dreese) Mori and started a family, settling in Portland where he lived for over 30 years.

Mel was an extremely valued employee at Pacific Resin & Chemical and then at Univar Chemical where he worked for 50 years, literally never missing a day at the office—and he still wanted to continue working well in his 80s.

Mel married his second wife, Louise Lamberton, in 1991 whom he loved dearly for 41 years. They resided in both Nashville, TN and in the Hoods Canal area—Mel’s favorite place on earth.

Mel had a passion for people, the outdoors, sunshine on his face, and had a knack for making everybody smile (even if having to endure the same jokes more than once). Mel was known to help anyone in need, warmly greet any random stranger, and had the unbelievable gift of genuinely making everyone he connected with feel like the most important person in the world. Mel cherished his family and grandchildren most of all.

Mel is predeceased by his mother Thelma Battin, father Dino Mori, sister Anita Bruce, first wife Sylvia Mori, and son Kyle Mori.

Mel is survived by his wife of 33 years, Louise Lamberton; son Dino Mori; sons-in-law Todd, Bryan and Greg Lamberton, Mark Goodman; Daughters-in-law Suzanne Goodman, Christina Bruder, Mindy Lamberton, Theresa Mori; Grandchildren Carter, Elizabeth, Isabelle, MacKenzie, Madison, Nathan and Nicholas. Mel is also survived by nieces and nephews: Julie and David Musicant, Dr. Chris and Lisa Bruce, and Douglas Bruce and their children: Casey Holden, Ross Musicant, and Sarah and Lauren Bruce.
