Martin Eugene Lisk was born in Portland Oregon on April 7 1968. He died July 19, 2024, suffering a brain aneurysm while riding his bike. Martin is survived by his parents Robin & Mary Ann Lisk. Also surviving: his aunt Marla Graber, aunt Peg Allison Saries (Rick ), cousins Heather Persinger ( Curtis Eastwood ) and Adam Persinger (Eleanor Gordon ) and their children.
Martin attended grade school in Lake Grove and Beaverton. In third grade his family moved to Bend Oregon ( pop. 13000 ) where he continued through 12th grade. He was always active athletically playing basketball, baseball, and then on to tennis. He started playing tennis through park and rec and also at the Vic Braden Tennis camp in Coto De Caza, Ca. He got to play tennis at the state tourney for the Mtn. View high school team. If I had the strokes and strategy he had I would have never quit the game. He was fun to watch.
After high school Mom and Dad bought him a windsurf board for graduation. He left OSU after one year and moved to Hood River ( windsurf capitol USA ) and sailboarding became his life for 10 years. He lived in his van and sailed the Columbia River every day the conditions allowed. In pursuit of his avocation he made sailing trips to the Oregon Coast ( pistol river), Baja Mexico, with other sailing friends.
After moving to Eugene his new passions became biking and hiking. He rode with the local biking club and made new friends there. He worked at Symantec for 4 years and he rode days and weekends training for local races. He also took up hiking and backpacking which included hikes around Mt. Hood , the Blue Mountains, the Gorge, the Oregon Coast, the Umpqua, Rogue and McKenzie Rivers. He occasionally played golf which was influenced by his Grandpa Graber. They both played well. Grandpa Gene preceded Martin’s passing by 4 years almost to the day. Most recently he took up pickleball which utilized his previous skills learned from tennis and racquetball.
His life was always filled with music. Many evenings of the week he sang and danced his heart out at the Eugene Karaoke venues. As one can see he filled each day to the fullest. His friends and family and new acquaintances knew he was always quick to offer help and advice with a caring smile. He shared frequent outings with his parents boating, camping, and beach trips. Our last trip together was a 5 day yurt camp ( at Harris Beach state park ) at the end of May featuring the Redwoods, Oregon Caves, and the Rogue River. We three had so much fun together.
Martin loved life . He is truly missed by so many people from several different communities of interest . He is watching over us and filling our hearts with love. Cheers to Marty , and please live your life to the fullest
