Ken joined the Conservation Corp when he was 18, and joined the National Guard when he was 19. He subsequently joined the Army at the advent of the Second World War, and went on the serve two tours of duty, mostly in SE Asia (New Guinea) as a combat engineer. He was discharged after the war, but was recalled for the Korean Conflict, after which he decided to stay in the Army and make it a career. He graduated from Officer Candidate School, and earned various engineering and management logistic skills. He served in the Vietnam War and retired from the military after 21 years and 8 months of active service. He received the soldier’s medal for heroism.
Ken is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; brother; and five sisters. He is survived by his children, Aerial Long, Jerry Roylance and Steven Tiger; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
