Karen Marlene Downer (Cox) was born July, 22, 1937 in Notus, Idaho to Ida King and Henry Downer. She was the youngest of four children, Gayle (Pat), Sully (Viola) and John (Ellen). She loved growing up in Idaho on a dairy farm with her three older brothers. She loved school- her graduating class had only 16 students. They had frequent reunions and always stayed in touch.
Karen married Jessie Barwick in 1957 and had two children, Cindy and Tom. Cindy has two sons Derrick (Sommer) and Alexander. Tom (Anne) has two sons Justin (Caiti) and Joshua (Sachia). Karen also has two great granddaughters (Derrick) and a great grandson (Joshua). Cindy joined Job’s Daughters and Karen was always there to enjoy and support her. Tom played baseball, basketball and football and Karen went to all the games; although she never understood the game of football.
Karen later married Robert Cox (preceded her in death). Karen loved people- she could make friends everywhere. She worked for the state of Oregon where she met one of her dearest friends Monye. They remained close for over 47 years! Her family was her life. She always loved hearing about what everyone was doing, where they were going and visiting with them. Her love for dogs continued through her life and she and Bob began breeding poodles. She loved to take walks in her neighborhood and would stop and talk to anyone passing by. She loved playing bridge and would win almost every game. She spent the last 11 months at Glisan Care Center where she played Yahtzee, games and cards and won most of the time. Staff at the center said her smile, laugh and love of everyone will be missed. She enjoyed music and singing and continued doing so at the care center. Karen’s love of people, animals and smile will be missed!
