James “Jim” R. Harper was born October 31, 1948, in South Gate, Calif. to James K. and Geraldine Harper. His father served a career in the Army, providing James with vast traveling experience. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Okinawa, Texas, Georgia, California, Louisiana, and Hawaii. Jim graduated from high school in Hawaii, after which he attended trade school to study warehouse management.
Jim worked as a warehouse supervisor. Being a man with many handy skills, he later started his own construction business, and worked primarily as an independent contractor on special projects and private contracts.
While living in Bishop, Calif., Jim had been an active member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Jim was an active man, and enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing and woodworking. He had a robust sense of humor, loved a good joke, and was known to appreciate a fine bottle of scotch.
Jim passed away May 30, 2023, in his home in Gresham, Ore. He is survived by his sister, Janice Alcorn (Steve); nieces, Jennifer Hawthorn and Ashley Gomez; nephew, Christopher Alcorn; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Those privileged to have known Jim remember him as a good brother, and a loyal friend.
A memorial service will be held in Bishop, Calif. at a later date.
