James is survived by his loving partner Laurel Regan and his daughter Lisa Hooley. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Jessica Carroll (Ryan), Kathleen Huber, Jordyn Therrell (Brady), as well as one grandson, Maxwell Hooley, and one great grandson, Graham Therrell.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice Graham; his sisters, Dolores Potts, Norma Finkelstein and Donna Mackay; and his son, Michael Graham.
Upon graduation from Benson High School in Portland, Oregon, where he learned the trade of commercial printing, James enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This is where he discovered a love of flying. After his military service, James traveled home to Portland and begin his career life. Having been gifted with an entrepreneurial spirit, he began his own printing business in his one car garage. That endeavor eventually grew to be a thriving boutique business known as Key Lithograph and the Oregon Envelope Company.
James was interested in all aspects of life, however, and managed to become a private pilot for over 50 years. He embarked on many flights, both domestic and international. Over the years, flying with his friends on their annual trips to out-of-the-way places yielded many great memories. Later in life, he became a proud member of the Quiet Birdmen. He treasured meeting other pilots.
Skiing and golfing also became passions during his life. James was a member of the Schnee Vogeli ski club for decades, and was also a member of the Bergfreunde Ski Club and Columbia Edgewater Country Club. He valued the camaraderie and friendships developed in these clubs over the years.
Always up for an adventure, James traveled the world. He loved meeting new people and learning about other cultures. He was fortunate to travel to six of the seven continents and make numerous friends along the way!
His family will miss him beyond measure. He could always be counted on for deep, philosophical discussion, wise counsel, and an encouraging word. Without question, his passing has left a hole in our hearts.
