Jack was born in Omaha Nebraska. His family moved to Oregon in 1937. As a child Jack moved around the country as his father was in the Army. Jack graduated from Franklin High School in 1953. He was active in sports and student government. Jack attended Portland State University where he lettered in both football and track. He married Gloria Muyskens and they had three children. During this time he worked as a police officer for a few years. Jack and Gloria later divorced. In 1979 Jack married an old high school friend, Barbara Shaw-Rovang. She also had three children. Jack retired from the army reserve after 22 years of service with the rank of Major. Jack later retired from the Port of Portland where he was a purchasing agent for fifteen years.
Survivors include his wife Barbara, daughters Kimberly Brewer (Roy), Julie Allen (Ron), and son Scott Roberts (Karen). Step-children include Cathy Rovang, Jim Rovang (Claudia) and Linda Ulmer (David); nine grandchildren Jacob, Hunter, Marissa, Rebekah, Abby, Jared, Jessica, Olivia and Emma.
Jack will be buried at Willamette National Cemetery.
