Harriet Rice, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 19, 2023, at the age of 90 in Portland, Oregon. She was born on October 5, 1932, in Portland, Oregon, to the late Charles and Helen Geenty.
Harriet had a great sense of humor and was known for her kind and compassionate nature. She found joy in helping others and her family was her greatest joy. Harriet loved spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them numbers, the alphabet, and singing children's songs. She met her husband Richard on a blind date on Halloween in 1950, and they recently celebrated their 70th anniversary together.
Harriet attended Holy Child Academy, where she completed her elementary and high school education, graduating in 1950. Throughout her life, Harriet took great joy in being a homemaker. She also worked for Pacific NW Bell and US Bank at various points in her career.
A lifelong Catholic, Harriet was a devoted member of St. Therese Parish since 1964, where she found solace and strength in her faith.
In her free time, Harriet loved to travel. In retirement, she enjoyed exploring destinations such as Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, Florida, Nevada, and the Oregon Coast. She also had a passion for gardening, flower arranging, cooking, card games, and puzzles.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 20th, at 11 am at St. Therese Catholic Parish, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Harriet's life and bid her farewell. Interment to take place at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Bethlehem House of Bread Food Pantry, located at 9055 SW Locust St. Tigard, OR 97223.
Harriet is survived by her loving husband Richard Rice, her children Linda (Richard) Dove and Patrick Rice, her brother Richard Geenty, several nieces and nephews, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
