Barbara Joyce MacGregor was born on a very hot August 10,1929, to Marjorie and Allister MacGregor at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. She grew up in North Portland where she attended Jefferson High School. After high school, she attended the University of Oregon where she was a very proud Alpha Delta Pi sorority member. She made many life-long friendships. She also met her soon-to-be husband, Deane Bond. They had 3 children. Life was busy and her children appreciated having a stay-at-home Mom! Barbara and Deane were married 29 years before divorcing.
On May 17, 1980,, she married Charles (Chuck) Prouty. They always joked that the wedding night caused the Mt. St. Helen’s eruption. Shortly thereafter they moved to Lincoln City. Barbara loved Chuck, Chuck loved Barbara, and they both loved the beach! They spent hours gathering shells, rock hunting, polishing agates and working on crafts. The family knew that we would eventually be gifted with those beautiful crafts. Barbara and Chuck had a passion for music and dancing. They had 16 wonderful years together.
After Chuck passed away, Barbara moved back to Portland and was comforted by being involved in her church. She truly lived to be of service to her friends. Barbara loved to drive. Her best days were those where she could take her non-driving friends to doctor appointments or wherever they needed to go. It was one of her saddest days when she had to give it up. She participated in pinocle groups and going to luncheons with her high school friends, college friends, and those from church. She stayed really busy!
As her dementia slowly impacted her independence, she moved to assisted living and finally to Memory Care at Avamere at Sandy where she lived out her final days very peacefully and filled with care and love. The family would like to acknowledge all of the wonderful caregivers at Avamere at Sandy and the wonderful caregivers at Signature Hospice.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Anita Lynn, (Don), her three children, Darlene Poirier (Tom), Greg Bond (Carrie), Jeff Bond (Rita), 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
