Alice Clyde Austin

Alice married Henry Brown (deceased) at the age of 15. Shortly after their marriage they relocated to Portland, OR. She has five boys and 1 girl: Mary Rouse, Henry Brown Jr. of Kansas City, MO, Thomas Ray Brown, Muntasir Rushdan, and Charles Brown. Alice later married James Jackson in 1958 and was again blessed with another child; Carlton Jackson.

Alice enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always eager to play dominoes with her children. These games would sometimes go on for hours. This is a tradition she has definitely passed all the way down to the great-grandchildren. Alice enjoyed cooking for her family as well. How many of you remember the "Awesome Cake?" She was an excellent cook! Now, if you thought she did that well you should have heard her play the piano, sing and write poetry. Sewing for her children and grandchildren was another one of her hobbies. From "MC Hammer pants" to kufi hats, she could sew it all. Making handkerchiefs and writing cards were just a few of the things she enjoyed doing for the sick and shut in. If you ever needed a trip down memory lane all you would have to do is pick up one of her many photo albums she collected. Her many gifts are cherished and will never be forgotten.

Alice gave her life to the Lord. She was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Lord gave utterance. She was a member of Bethesda Christian Church where she loved to worship the Lord.

Left to cherish her memories are: all of her children, her six sisters and one brother (all of Texas except where noted), Bennitta Austin-Green, Margaret Austin, Marilyn Austin-Lincoln, Tommie Lee Austin, Laura Austin-Anderson, Johnnie Austin-Johnson, currently resides in California, and April Earlene Austin-Bowser. She has 22 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
