He was born in Portland, the son of William Whidden and Irene Sanders Johnson on December 29, 1933. ,He attended schools in Belfast graduating from Crosby High School. ,He also graduated from University of Maine (Orono), and received his accounting degree from Husson College.
Wayne was a self-employed certified public accountant for several years until his retirement. He was a longtime member of Woodford’s Congregational Church of Portland, served a past District Governor of Toastmaster’s International, and was a Founding member of Trout Unlimited (Sebago Chapter).
He is predeceased by his wife Rebecca (Carroll) Johnson in 2012, his parents, and brother David and sister-in-law Nancy.
He leaves 3 daughters; Janet and her husband Phillip Thompson, of Gorham, Jennifer and her husband David Shugars of Scarborough, Judy and her husband Rodney Walter, of Phoenix, AZ, his sister, Penny Johnson, of Portland, Sister-in-law, Barbara Maloy, of Machiasport, 6 grandchildren; Kamron Walter Motter, Kylie Walter, Nicolette Shugars Verrill, Kelsey Walter, Ryan Shugars, and Adam Shugars. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Thursday October 27, 2016 from 4 to 7PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St, Portland. A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11AM at Woodford’s Congregational Church, 202 Woodford St, with Rev. Carolyn Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Portland. ME.
