South Portland - Steven Frank Vaznis, 69 passed peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on November 3, 2022. He was born February 2, 1953 in Jacksonville, FL, the son of Robert L. “Sonny” Vaznis Sr. and Earlene M. (Walters) Vaznis.
Steve grew up in Millinocket and was a graduate of Stearns High School. He was a lover of adventure and affectionately referred to as a free spirit but his favorite title that he held was, “Pa.” Steve had a passion for being outdoors; fishing, hunting and camping. He valued spending time with his family and they all have treasured stories of time spent ice fishing, hiking into Horserace and Grassy Pond or simply “taking a ride to the mountain.” Later in life when he had to hang up his fishing pack, he became an avid movie watcher and collector.
He is survived by his life companion of 48 years, Patricia L. (Mackin) Vaznis; two children, Faith M. (Vaznis) Currier and her husband Greg, and Angela Manzo; six grandchildren, Mitchell and Addison, Samantha, Derek, Jeremy and Jada; siblings Bob Vaznis and his wife Jodi, Joyce Landry and her husband Mike, and Timothy Vaznis; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by his son, Jeremy Hendsbee. He was also preceded by two loyal canine companions, Baxter & Sasha.
At his request there will be no services. A special tribute ride will be planned for a later date.
