Karl was the son of Dr. Laban Leiter and Iva (Fearon) Leiter. He attended schools in Portland, as well as Fryeburg Academy, Ricker College and SMTC and was employed by Pape Chevrolet and Bill Dodge Auto Group as a Service Manager for 37 years. Karl’s love of being on the ocean was kindled by childhood summers spent at the family cottage in Pine Point, Scarborough. He was a longtime member at Harraseeket Yacht Club and past commodore. His other passions included cars, motorcycles, rock ‘n’ roll music, chocolate labradors, and Klondike bars. His ingenuity and cleverness made him able to repair just about anything.
What Karl loved to do most, however, was to make people laugh. He had a contagious sense of humor, and his presence guaranteed the gift of laughter to everyone in the room. Those blessed to know Karl benefited from his generosity in always lending a hand, his kind and gentle nature, and his bright light.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by family and friends.
Karl is survived by his wife Marion of 33 years; siblings Bruce and wife Meredith, Lisa and husband Dale Wisler, Janet, John, Susan and husband Tim Nason, nieces Sarah Leiter and Melissa Fiske and husband Eben and their 3 children. He is also survived by nieces Kimberly and Britt Sanders, and nephews Andrew and Brad Myers.
Karl is predeceased by his parents, Laban and Iva and his nephew John.
A celebration of Karl’s life will be held at their residence on December 8, 2024 from 11 to 4.
