He was born on February 19, 1937, in Tonawanda, New York, the son of John D. and Margaret P. (Wing) Stanton Sr. and grew up in New Gloucester, ME. After serving in the United States Army, he returned to Maine where he was a long term resident of Windham. He became a truck driver/diesel mechanic for the next 38 years, retiring in 1999.
He enjoyed automotive repair, woodworking, hunting, fishing and had a general love of the outdoors.
He is survived by one brother, Timothy Wing and his wife Merri Jane of Raymond, ME.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister Margaret Jane Stanton and three brothers, Harry Stanton, David Wing and Roger Wing, and his stepfather Forest Wing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy; his sons, John III, and his wife Wendy of Columbia, North Carolina and Michael and his wife Lorie of Wendell, North Carolina. John is also survived by four grandchildren, Sarah Stanton, John Stanton, Amy Stanton and Daniel Stanton and many nieces and nephews.
A private celebration will be held in the Spring as he requested no services.
