He was born in Jamestown, NY the son of Paul B. and Kathryn Snyder Miner where he attended schools graduating from Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville, NY class of 1957. Jim would go on to attend college at Roberts Wesleyan College in North Chili, NY. Shortly before he completed his college degree Jim was called to serve in the US Army from 1961 to 1964 where he served in the Army Security Services.
After his discharge from the Army in Asmara, Ethiopia, Africa he remained to serve as a missionary for 15 years. He built the Compassion of Jesus Hospital in Ghinda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Africia where he remained until the civil war in that country forced him to return to the United States.
Jim had a heart for helping people and for missions. He enjoyed actively serving at his church and was employed for a time at First Baptist Church of Portland where enjoyed singing in the choir as well as serving in the kitchen at the church’s annual summer camp and at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 12 years Carol Miner of Cumberland, his precious mother of Gerry, NY, his 2 Sons, John and his wife Pam Miner, Paul and his wife Libby Miner, a Daughter, Ruth Ann & her husband David Harris, 2 Brothers, Hugh and his wife Nancy Miner, Nelson and his wife Lori Miner, 5 Grandchildren; Shara, Christopher, Ashley, Aidan and Patrick, 2 Step-Sons, Michael and his wife Sherri McKague, Doug and his wife Dennise McKague, 2 Step-Daughters, Cheryl and her husband David Rondeau, Pamela Dunnam, and many step-grand and great grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held Sunday January 6, 2013 from 2 to 3Pm at First Baptist Church of Portland, Canco Rd where a Celebration of Life for Jim will be conducted at 3 PM. Interment will be in the spring at Moss Side Cemetery, Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missions Fund, C/O First Baptist Church, 360 Canco Rd, Portland, Me. 04103.
