Donald Whitney Sawyer

Donald Whitney Sawyer, 93 of Berwick Maine passed away on Tuesday April 20, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family after battling dementia for over 10 years. Don was pre deceased by his loving wife Nancy (Borgal) Sawyer.

Don was born in Melrose, Massachusetts on December 11, 1927. Son of the late Roswell Sawyer and Ethel (Turner) Sawyer. Don graduated from Melrose public school system. Don was a former resident of Melrose, MA and Reading, MA.

Don worked for Highland Contractors. From there he worked for Harold Balcomb Electric which he later took ownership of and ran and operated Don Sawyer Electric until his retirement in 1990’s.

Don was married in 1951 and started his family in Greenwood, MA. The most important part of Don’s life was his family. He loved his wife and each and every one of his children dearly. Some of his best times were spent at his camp (up country) on Balch Pond with his family. He loved spending time on the lake and taking every one water skiing for hours on end. Don loved the holidays and always made them special for his family. Christmas was his favorite. Don enjoyed his friends and weekends away. He enjoyed his bowling league and couples club dances.

Don leaves behind his son Ronald Sawyer and his wife Paula of Ipswich, MA, his daughter, the late Pamela (Sawyer) Costa, his daughter Lisa (Sawyer) Martel and her husband Donald of Berwick, ME, his daughter Debra (Sawyer) Vars and her companion Thomas Luibheid, loving grandchildren, Julie (Martel) Morris and her husband James, Jeffrey Costa and his wife Courtney, Kevin Martel and his wife Victoria, the late Hunter Vars, five very special great grandchildren Ella, Delia and Turner Morris and Avery and Caden Costa, brother, Calvin Sawyer

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, 185 Lake Street, Peabody, MA on May 10th at noon.
