Debbie was born and raised in Portland, the family moved to Westbrook in 1973, it was in Westbrook where Debbie established her roots and created her closest friendships.
Deb graduated from Westbrook High School in 1979 and attended the University of Maine Orono where she received her degree in Marketing. She spent a year in Florida after graduating with a close friend and returned after realizing her nature was better suited for the causal life style of Maine.
Deb began her first career in advertising spending a majority of time with her great friends at Creative Design and Marketing (CDM), in Portland. She worked her way up from an entry-level position to an Account Executive, creating a multitude of personal relationships along the way. However, Deb’s true career passion was teaching. She earned her teaching degree and Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Southern Maine. Deb loved her position as an eighth grade math teacher at King Middle School in Portland. She treasured all of her students, but always mentioned how important it was to support the “naughty” ones. She cheered for the underdog and always wanted her students to have a fair chance. Sadly, Deb had to retire from teaching prematurely due to her MS condition.
In 1995, Deb married the love of her life, Jeff Treadwell. Together they raised a beautiful family in Falmouth. The pride of her life was her son Jackson and her daughter Julia. Deb shared her love of academics with Jackson and often voiced how proud she was of his accomplishments and attendance at Worchester Polytechnic Institute. With Julia, she was actively involved supporting Falmouth High School Volleyball and Softball. Deb enjoyed watching Julia play both sports and was “Bunny’s” biggest cheerleader.
Deb was preceded by her father Theodore Blake of Westbrook, grandparents William and Margaret Afthim of Westbrook, Nana Mirla Blake of Portland. She is survived by her husband Jeff Treadwell, children Jackson and Julia of Falmouth, her mother Joan Afthim Jackson of Westbrook, brother Daniel Blake and wife Sharon of Auburn, sister Gloria Blake Noyes and husband Stephen Noyes of Westbrook, her special Aunt Lorraine Afthim of Westbrook, in-laws Al and Dorothy Treadwell of New Gloucester, sister-in-laws Laurie Treadwell and Sheila Cobb Andersson, many aunts and uncles, cousins, special nieces and nephews, and numerous close friends.
We greatly appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from family, friends, neighbors, and the Falmouth community during this time. We would like to thank the staff at Maine Medical Center (R.N.’s Sasha and Teresa) and the Gosnell Hospice House who cared for Deb.
We welcome those who would like to celebrate her beautiful life to attend an upbeat memorial celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Westbrook Stockhouse in their banquet room. Deb loved happy hour food especially wings and nachos and being with friends and family. On-line condolences can be given to the family at www.jonesrichandhutchins.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Deb Treadwell’s name to the Maine Chapter of the MS Society or King Middle School.
