David B. Chittick, 75, of Frost Hill Road, passed away on February 4, 2023. He was born in Portland, ME, a son of Carleton and Efra (Broe) Chittick. David graduated from Deering High School. He also attended USM in Portland where he met Pat and they became very dear friends. David worked for the Anderson Little clothing store in South Portland before transferring to Waltham, MA and later to Millville, NJ. He and Pat continued their relationship throughout this time. They moved back to Maine and married in 1976, residing in Portland.
David worked for Gorham High School where he was an Ed Tech in a Special Education classroom. He loved the students and they loved him. He established a relationship with them that continued through their graduation. David worked in this position for 17 years before retiring.
He had a great intellectual curiosity about many things including history, space exploration, literature and nature. He appreciated art history and spent many hours reading/studying about it. He shared a love of architectural history with his brother Tom. Together they spent many hours discussing and visiting the architecture in Portland. David and Tom had a very special relationship, not only as brothers, but as close friends.
David and Pat had an incredible relationship and truly loved each other deeply. He enjoyed life and had an adventurous mind and a great sense of humor. David was a compassionate person with a gentle soul. He was sensitive, kind and cared about others.
He and Pat loved to garden in their backyard. They spent countless hours planting, tending and appreciating the variety of colors and plants. He enjoyed sitting outside observing his plants, as well as the birds, squirrels etc. They loved being together regardless of what they were doing often just hanging out. They had many fond memories of their life. They enjoyed travel, theater, dining out and taking rides.
He had a great love for all animals, not just his own. He had many pets over the years and most recently his two beagles, Lily and Lucy, who will miss him dearly.
David is survived by Pat (Sferes) Chittick, his wife of 47 years; Tom his brother and Luke his nephew, as well as many friends and family. He also leaves behind Lucy and Lily his beloved Beagles. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Nathan Chittick.
Visiting hours will be held from 10-11 AM on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Jones Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, where a Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11 AM. A time of fellowship and reception will immediately follow at Jones Rich & Barnes Funeral Home.
