Saco – Celia Florence Lewis, 80, died Tuesday August 3, 2010, surrounded by family, at the Monarch Center. Born March 18, 1930, she was the only child of Howard E. and Celia Abbie ( Bridges) Hooper. Shortly after her birth, her mother died. After her mother’s death, her father married Hester Williams Hooper.
Celia attended Saco Schools and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1948. While attending TA she was on the bowling team and played clarinet in the orchestra. Her first job was at Virginia’s Restaurant in Old Orchard Beach.
She graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business College in Boston. After graduation she was employed at the First National Bank of Biddeford as a bookkeeper.
On May 14, 1955 she married Carlton Fred Lewis in Saco having four children. They were married for 50 years before his death on May 24, 2005.
Celia was a member of the Annette Chapter 184, Order of Eastern Star, a Girl Scout Leader and a housewife.
After her youngest daughter entered high school, she worked at LL Bean, Ventrex Laboratories and Data General.
She enjoyed baking, gardening and knitting. Family gatherings, birthdays and holidays were important to her. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. After her retirement she and her husband enjoyed traveling.
Her years at Thornton Academy were very important to her. She tried to attend all her class reunions with her 60th reunion being her last one. She was amazed that she remembered all her classmates’ names.
After her husband’s death, she spent a winter with her daughter Barbara in Florida. She resided in Falmouth for 40 years, leaving in May 2006.
Besides her loving parents, stepmother and husband, she was predeceased by her sister; Shirley Duross and nephew; Steven Duross.
She is survived by three daughters; Barbara Lewis of Sarasota, FL, Linda Theriault and her husband Bruce of Buxton and Tenley Prince and her husband Harry of Saco, seven grandchildren; Molly and Ryan McKinney , Sean and Adam Theriault, Alyssa and Jamie DiPietro and Angela Prince, one great grandson, Damon Laflin, two sisters; Rebecca Cushman of Saco and Barbara Krause of Schnecksville, PA and her brother; Robert Hooper of Falmouth, a very special brother in law, Carroll Lewis of Waldoboro, her husbands twin, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Celia’s family would like to thank Dr. Steven Dobieski, Dr. Seth Kolkin, Dr. Willard Stitzell, Birchwood’s at Canco, Beacon Hospice and the Monarch Center.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday August 9, 2010 at Pine Grove Cemetery Falmouth.
