William E. Carey

William Edward Carey, age 76, died peacefully on January 23, 2018 in Lawnwood Medical Center - Fort Pierce, FL. He was proud to say he was born in the Bronx, NY, the son of Margaret (Loretta) Haertel and William R. Carey.

Bill received his Bachelor's Degree from Fordham University and his MBA from Iona University, and was an executive in the educational publishing field.

He was a true friend to all who knew him, and had deep faith in people and in God, which carried him throughout his life. He continued to ski into his 60's, and was a member of the Port St. Lucie Angler's Club. Bill and his fianceé, Lorraine, enjoyed "being Santa and Mrs. Claus" in both Fairfield, CT and Port St. Lucie.

He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Anne Marie (DeMasi) Carey, his parents, sister, Mary Diane Carey, infant son, Liam, daughter, Meegan, and grandson, Zachary Owen Hoinoski. He was also predeceased by his mother in-law and father-in-law, Mary Ellen and Victor DeMasi of CT.

He is survived by his fianceé, Lorraine Novak, of Port St. Lucie. In addition, he is survived by his children: Deirdre Hoinoski and her husband, Joseph, of Colleyville, TX; Jessica Carey of Fairfield, CT; sons, Brian Carey and his wife, Maura (Brennan) of Fairfield, CT; and Matthew Carey of Brooklyn, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, William and Sophie Hoinoski, and Kieran and Teagan Carey.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018, in St. Bernadette Church - 350 California Blvd., Port St. Lucie, FL 34986. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Americares - 88 Hamilton Avenue - Stamford, CT 06902 www.americares.org or to a charity of one's choice.
