JoAnn Elizabeth Cyr passed to the peace of Eternal Life at home surrounded by her family on June 5, 2019. JoAnn was born on March 29, 1942, at Fitzgibbons Hospital in Marshall, Missouri, the second of three daughters, to William Andrew and Genevieve Hayob. In March of 1945 the family moved from Shackelford, MO to a farm near Salisbury, MO where JoAnn grew up and where she attended St. Joseph School. Following graduation she went to Mount St. Scholastica College, for girls in Atchison, Kansas. There she met Michael Leonard and they were married thereafter. They were parents to Julia Rene (William Wesley), William Patrick Leonard, and Theresa Elaine(Alec Burnett). Her husband was a career Air Force pilot, which resulted in many moves to bases around the United States, plus he served two combat tours in Vietnam during the war.
JoAnn married Army Veteran, Rick Pokras and they had one daughter, Valerie Lee (Bobby Bounds).
On January 2, 2004, JoAnn married Richard Cyr . With their children, they completed a loving and supportive blended family.
JoAnn had a successful career in retail sales having been a manager for a retail chain in the Washington D.C. area. In Port St. Lucie, she was a retail sales associate for Mervyn's and later spent time working for Dillard's where she was awarded for her dedication to the company.
JoAnn was proud of having grown up in the Midwest as a farmers daughter. From early childhood, she enjoyed reading books. JoAnn has a keen interest in history, and was a true American Patriot. She took pride in keeping up her home. She had a keen eye for style and was always elegant in her personal appearance. Most of all, JoAnn was a truly lovely lady. She was a devoted wife and mother, and she had unmeasurable love for her children, grandchildren, and little great grandchildren.
JoAnn fought cancer for eight plus years with every breath and bone in her body. She showed tremendous courage, drive, and determination, and a great appreciation for the value of living. She had a strong faith and trust in God, along with an absolute belief in the miracle of prayer.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Cyr, of the home; three daughters; step daughters; one son; step sons; grandchildren; step grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ellen Kanak, of Columbia, MO and Elaine Bankston (Jere), Midlothian, Virginia; along with many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. JoAnn will be deeply missed by all.
A Viewing with Vigil Prayer will take place on Friday June 7, 2019 from 5-8pm at Aycock Funeral Home, 1504 SE Floresta Drive Port St. Lucie, Florida 34983. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur on Saturday June 8, 2019 in JoAnn's honor at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2330 SE Mariposa Avenue Port St. Lucie, Florida 34952. Committal will immediately follow at Rolling Oaks Cemetery in Port St. Lucie.
