Floyd Edwin Gladden, 81, went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, the one he loved, worshipped and served on Thursday evening, November 10, 2022, in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida. He is survived by Virginia, his beloved wife of 58 years. Floyd was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Elizabeth Gladden and his two sisters, Mary Dewey and Judy Fouts.
Floyd was born on April 15,1941, in Speed, Indiana. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Stetson University on a basketball scholarship and was also a member of the golf team. After receiving his degree, Floyd served his country in the United States Army, stationed in South Korea for one year. Following his military service, he began a career as a professional golfer. Floyd served as a golf pro at Deltona Country Club, Spring Hill Country Club, Marco Island Country Club and Marco Shores Country Club all in Florida.
Floyd and Virginia then returned to the Daytona Beach area and surrendered their lives to following Jesus. They joined First Baptist Church Daytona Beach in 1979. Floyd became a full-time employee there in 1988 where his responsibilities were management of the church buildings and grounds. He went on 17 mission trips to various countries and Virginia made 12 of those trips with him. On many occasions he had the privilege of teaching seminary students and pastors how to share their faith. One of Floyd’s greatest joys was to spend time memorizing scripture and studying God’s Word. His knowledge of the Bible and gentle spirit allowed him to present the gospel to countless people all over the world.
Virginia takes comfort in the fact that she will see Floyd again someday in Heaven. Her hope rests in the good news that Jesus, the Holy Son of God, died for our sins. He was raised from the dead showing that He is God and has power over life and death. All who call on His Name in repentance and faith will be saved and live with Him in heaven eternally. Floyd’s faith has now become sight and he is walking the streets of gold in Heaven.
Floyd’s celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church, 10 First Baptist Parkway, Daytona Beach, Florida on Thursday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Eric Stitts officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church Daytona Beach.
Virginia wants to thank all of those who prayed and provided many delicious meals, transportation and sent cards of encouragement. Interment will be Friday, November 18, at 9:30 a.m. at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.
