Mary Virginia “Ginger” Roemer Balez, of The Woodlands, formerly of Port Lavaca, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, in The Woodlands and at the age of 95. She was born on October 24, 1928, in Seadrift, Texas, the only child of Lawrence Wilson and Lillian Belle Cook Roemer.
From 1964 to 1975, Ginger worked as the secretary for Bauer Dredging, and then worked briefly as a landman for Conoco before retiring. While she lived in the area, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Port Lavaca.
Ginger enjoyed arts and crafts and excelled in crochet. She was an avid reader. Fiercely independent, Ginger lived alone with her Pomeranian Bengi in Pflugerville until six weeks before her death.
In addition to her parents, Ginger was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest J. Balez.
Ginger is survived by her children, Kathleen “Kathee” Steubing and her husband Francis E., Virginia Staat and her husband David, Steve Parker and his wife Diane, and Candace Hahn and her husband Gary. In addition, she leaves behind six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish her memory.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 11 am at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Parker, Joshua Parker, Bart Gayle, Billy Balez, David Staat, and Bobby Balez. Honorary pall bearers are Kathee Steubing, Francis E. Steubing, Gary Hahn and Virginia Staat.
