Luteria M. Lara

Luteria M. Lara, 93, of Port Lavaca passed away September 6, 2021. She was born February 20, 1928 in Yorktown to Carlos Mendoza and Maria Cuellar Reyes. She was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, enjoyed spending time in her yard gardening, and was a free taxi service to anyone who needed a ride (she enjoyed getting paid in hamburgers.)

She is survived by her son, Henry Sowa (Mary); sisters, Val Torres (Frank) and Annie Mungia (Mingo); grandchildren, Mary Sanchez (Raul Sr.), Martin Sowa (Anna), and Manuel Peña (Ashley); granddaughter-in-law, Connie Sowa; 8 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Lara; parents; sister, Janie Mendoza; brothers, Eusebio Mendoza and Timoteo Mendoza; and grandson, Manuel Sowa.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 3-7 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Monday, September 13, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens.

Pallbearers are Michael Briseño, Martin Sowa Jr., Manuel Sowa Jr., Raul Sanchez Jr., Derek Sowa, and Manuel Peña. Honorary Pallbearers are Eric Sowa, Martin Sowa III, Nickolas Sanchez, and Manuel Sowa III.
