Our mom, Angie Rokosz-Kelson, passed away in her sleep on Monday 12/16. She truly lived a full life. She was born in Istanbul, Turkey on Feb 5, 1941. Her Dad and Mom were Polish and Greek. Her dad worked for the French Embassy in Istanbul as a caretaker for the property and so her first language was French. She learned to speak English, Greek, and Turkish in high school.
At the age of 23 she traveled to America for 3 months to visit her 2 sisters, Philomene and Margarite, who had already moved to California and to Minnesota with their husbands. Prior to heading back to Istanbul, she met family friends in Brooklyn & Queens. It was in Brooklyn where she met our dad, Richie Rokosz, and they were engaged 6 months later. My sister and I were born in the next several years and we moved from Long Island City, NY to a home in Brentwood on Long Island. This was where my sister and I grew up.
She touched the lives of so many people... Her favorite sentence was "How can I help?" She would always uplift and encourage everyone around her to keep moving forward and to have hope despite any setback. Our mom traveled the world on vacations and traveled to many US cities for conferences with her job. She set the bar very high for my sister and I...Her kindness, her patience, and integrity were unbelievable.
Although she had numerous health issues in the last few years, she never took a sick day from her work. She always showed up early, and I cannot remember her ever taking a sick day in 35 years of work.. If she took a day for PTO it was to take us to the doctor as I can't recall one full day of her being sick in bed.. Yes, she would catch colds like everyone but the next day it would disappear. What a blessing to grow up with her.
Over the years my mom met and married Ron Kelson as we were happy to see mom sharing her life with Ron and being nearby and engaged with her grandchildren. She would always be there for friends and family. Driving someone for medical treatments, sharing her time, or just listening. We were blessed to share her life, and we will always have a part of her in our hearts.
Beloved wife of the late Ronald Kelson. Loving mother of Claudette Challenor (late Robert) and Joseph Rokosz (Kristen). Dear stepmother of Pam Shapiro (Howie) and Michael Kelson (Jill). Cherished grandmother of Robert, Kayla, Jack, Olivia, Zachary, Scott, Sarah, Josh and Samara.
A visitation for Anjel will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776.
