Natural born teacher and “Jack of all trades,” Todd Bernard Wilson passed away on September 12, 2023. A Chenango Valley High School graduate (1982) Todd proudly served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Senior Airman. Todd greatly respected others who served our country in the military and through law enforcement and other public safety positions.
After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Todd attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and graduated from their Aircraft Maintenance Technology program in 1993. Todd then obtained a Bachelor of Science in Technology Education from SUNY Oswego in 1997. Finally, Todd graduated from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce Law Center’s joint Master of Arts in Intellectual Property and Doctorate of Jurisprudence program in 2002.
Despite achieving several college degrees including a doctorate, he would laugh if anyone referred to him as “Dr. Wilson” stating “No, that is my brother, Mark. He is a ‘real’ doctor.” Todd was quite humble and rarely mentioned his educational or vocational accomplishments. In fact, he frequently joked about being an underachiever in a family of highly accomplished educators and health professionals.
Todd had many talents and held a wide-variety of jobs. For many years, he worked in sales and custom motorcycle design for Harley Davidson and then Triumph Motorcycles. For these jobs, he traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. When he tired of traveling, Todd returned to his passion for teaching. Over his lifetime, Todd worked as a Technology Education Teacher for several local school districts including Maine-Endwell High School (1998-1999), Newark Valley High School (1998), Jennie F. Snap Middle School, Union-Endicott (1997), and Whitney Point Schools (2021-2023).
Todd was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Golan Wilson. He leaves behind his partner, Melissa Couch, and her three children, Julia Peters, Spencer Peters, and Emma Couch whom he loved as if they were his own, and his golden retriever, Murphy. Todd is survived in death by his father Stanley Wilson, sisters Julie Gallagher (Matt), Shelley Dionne (Peter), and Kathy Greene, and his brother Mark Wilson (Amy) as well as many beloved nephews and nieces.
Todd had a great smile, and he laughed easily and often. He could fix anything, and he helped everyone and anyone without any expectation that the favor would be repaid. Todd loved dogs and frequently joked that he was “part dog.” Todd raised or helped raise many dogs during his life, and his golden retriever, Murphy, was with him when he passed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Humane Society or SCPA.
