MaryAnn V. Skinner, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with illness. Born to Michael and Albina Sisolak, she was a proud member of the Slovak community and cherished her heritage. MaryAnn was predeceased by her parents, as well as her siblings, Elizabeth, Evelyn, and George.
MaryAnn is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Doug; her three children, Stephen (Kris) of Oswego, NY; David (Jolene) of Elizabethtown, PA; and Kathleen Panfini (John Wasko) of Scott Township, PA. She leaves behind a legacy of love and family through her 10 grandchildren—Ryan, Sarah, Courtney, Matthew, Hannah, Rachel, Kristen, Mary, Rebekah, and Charity—and three beloved great-granddaughters, Luna, Norah, and Ember. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Rosemary Benyo and Shirley Masaryk, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family to her.
MaryAnn will be remembered as a warm, welcoming soul who always offered a helping hand to anyone in need. She was a breast cancer survivor, having conquered the disease in 1976, and her resilience was a beacon to those around her. A lover of nature and gardening, MaryAnn took pride in her flowers and was known for her delicious brownies and traditional nut rolls. She embraced life’s simple joys, from playing cards and traveling to cross-country skiing and watching horse races. Halloween was a special time for her, and she delighted in giving out chips to neighborhood children.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Brookside Gardens at Vestal Park Nursing Home for their compassionate care during MaryAnn’s final days.
MaryAnn’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves a legacy of love, generosity, and resilience that will continue to inspire her family and friends.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2024 from 9-10am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1031 Chenango St., Hillcrest, NY 13901, immediately followed by a funeral mass at 10am. Burial will be in Chenango Valley Cemetery.
