Juanita M. “Nita” Shafer, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 after complications from Covid. She was predeceased by her parents Dewey & Leona Merritt, sisters Pearl Crissell, Frances Bunting, Marie Warnstorf, Esther Kovaleski; brothers Henry Merritt, Howard Merritt, Ralph Merritt and Leon Merritt and loving nieces and nephews, who passed before her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Arthur Shafer; her children Mary (Timothy) Shafer and Dawn Shafer; stepson James Shafer; grandchildren Timothy (Karrissa) Shafer, Joshua (Samantha) Shafer, LilliOnna D’Introno, AJ Shafer and Cameron Shafer; great grandson Riley Shafer; sisters Joyce (Augustine) Caggianelli and Shirley (Duane) Braman and several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Nita will be remembered in the Kirkwood community for her hard work and dedication to the family business; Shafer’s Deli. She enjoyed playing BINGO and working in her garden but most of all spending time with her family who will miss her immeasurably.

The Family will receive friends at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 11am-1pm. A Funeral Service will.follow at 1pm. Burial will be in the Kirkwood Cemetery.
