Lavina and Earl and I had been involved in advocacy around Middle East issues and I had little contact with them after we moved from Vancouver to the Island.
That was an excellent memorial gathering. I was happy to learn so much more about Lavina's rich life.

Lavina Shaw will be remembered as a great telegraph operator and supporter of the Morse Telegraph Club,  She wil be missed, but will live forever in our memory.

I was made aware of the Morse Club when visiting the Saanich Fair. When we moved to Surrey in 2014 we joined in the regular meetings held in the ABC restaurant and got to know Lavina. I was amazed at her skill in Morse and felt honoured when asked to say the grace regularly in Morse at those luncheon times. Lois and I visited Lavina in her home and often chatted on the phone. We were so pleased to arrange and hold the final Vancouver chapter of Morse in our facility here at Elim. Lavina was our friend and she will be missed. Our hope alone rests in the Easter Story that whoever believes in Him (Jesus) should not perish but have everlasting life John 3:16. May this hope bring you comfort at this time of your loss.

Greatly saddened to get news of your mom's passing,  We send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss.
I have such good memories of Lavina - and EJ, too - memories of Parkspin, both the mill and the retail store on Ross Street, of working at the Psych. and seeing her there, and, of course, of the famous gatherings at your home.  Those were the days!!!
EJ and Lavina were so gracious to me, good-naturedly putting up with my various political "speeches."  Again, good memories!!

They enjoyed your friends and nothing seemed to be too much for them… out of town hockey games, sleepovers and wild parties at 10 Parkview.
