Ruth Waters Shiflett, age 70 of Punta Gorda, FL passed away July 5, 2019. She was born July 26, 1948 in Montgomery, AL to Dewey and Alberta (Duke) Waters. Ruth graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, AL in 1968. She loved playing tennis and was involved in various tennis leagues at the YMCA in Punta Gorda, FL and was very active in the Sunrise Kiwanis “Shoes for Kids” Tennis Championships. Ruth also enjoyed boating, fishing, and sharing many laughs and memories with friends at lunch or dinner parties. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Sonny Waters. She is survived by her loving husband, Barry O’Neal Shiflett III; her son, Barry O’Neal Shiflett IV; daughter-in-law, Paige Shiflett; grandchildren, Ivey Shiflett and Aubrey Shiflett; her sister, Florence Conway; and her brothers, Houston Waters and Ronnie Waters. A celebration of life honoring Ruth Shiflett will be Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 2pm at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home; 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
