Mary C. Lyon, 68, of Port Charlotte, FL and formerly Nantucket, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. Mary was born in Boston, MA on April 30, 1954, to Mary Brenan Myatt and William Hill.
Mary first moved to Nantucket in 1978. After returning to the Boston area for a few years, Mary moved back to Nantucket when she married Raymond Lyon in 1988. Many people knew Mary from her days at Finast/Stop and Shop where she worked for over 25 years. Mary would always enjoy giving treats to the local children when they would go in to the store with their parents. Mary’s co-workers were not just co-workers they were her family.
Upon retirement Mary relocated to Port Charlotte, FL with her son, but would visit Nantucket often to visit her daughters and grandchildren. Anyone who knew Mary, knew her grandchildren were the sun, moon and stars to her.
Mary is predeceased by her parents Mary and William, brothers Johnny, Eddie, Thomas, Robert and Joseph Myatt, sisters Loretta Powers and Linda Stewart, brother-in-law’s Mike Fogarty and Kenneth Chestner, sister-in-law’s Christine Myatt and Kathy Myatt, and mother-in-law Marian Stafford.
Mary is survived by her husband Ray, of Nantucket, son William Flaherty (Virginia) of Port Charlotte, FL, daughters Kerri and Lisa Flaherty of Nantucket, brother Roy “Sonny” Myatt of Rockland, MA, sister Harriet Fogarty of Halifax, MA, sister-in-law Myrlene Myatt of California and sister-by-choice Brenda Garnett of Nantucket. She is also survived by grandchildren Larry and Ciara Wilson, Kalia Starks, Jazia Matheney, Kyden Whitfield, Trevaun Flaherty, Makayah and Jaxon Viera all of Nantucket, Zayda Wilson of The Czech Republic, Daniel Nugent (Diandra) and Felicia Nugent of Cape Cod, Kylie Flaherty-Cohn, Jacob Flaherty, Crystina Saling and William Flaherty Jr. of Florida, three great-grandchildren Ethan Doherty, and Jackson and Maxon Nugent of Cape Cod along with many nieces and nephews.
Mary’s family would like to thank the staff and the close friends that she made at Vick Street Manor where she lived out the remaining months of her life. We are also appreciative of Tidewell Hospice nurse Tiffany and CNA Nicole, who Mary especially bonded with.
A celebration of life is being planned for the spring.
