She was born on April 17, 1930 in Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia to George Hunter Lacy and Monteray Runyon Lacy. Betty was from a large Family of 13 siblings: Lillian, George Hunter (‘Bus’), Rose, Raymond, Doris (‘Dottie), Peggy, Garrett, Lydia (‘Lottie’), Franklin (‘Frankie’), William (‘Billy’), Brenda and Jimmy. She was a Bookkeeper with a prominent northern Virginia law firm for 39 years before her retirement in 1987. She enjoyed gardening and was an excellent seamstress, sewing for over 50 years. In her later years, she was an avid puzzle player…. putting together many beautiful and complicated 5,000+ piece puzzles. Betty came to Port Charlotte, Florida from Bishopville, Maryland in 1998 and was a member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry, of 29 years, in 2014. Betty has two daughters, Donna Markl (Peter) of Hamburg, Germany and Joyce Stempa (Michael) of Woodbridge, Virginia, and three step-children, Richard ‘Jerry’ (Terry) Rankin of Lovettsville, Virginia; Joanne Rankin Campbell of Olney, Maryland and James ‘Jim’ (Pat) Rankin of Gaithersburg, Maryland; and, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews – and more!
A memorial service for Betty will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 2405 Harbor Blvd, Port Charlotte, Florida 33952.
