Mrs. Wilberta Boulet was born in Boyce, La. June 1, 1916 to Tom and Myrtle Ball. She had 2 brothers, Harold Ball and wife Kathryn of Georgetown, TX and Goldman Ball and wife Margie (both deceased) of Port Arthur. Her husband Wilbert died July 2011 and they would have celebrated 75 yrs of marriage this October.
Wilberta graduated from Port Arthur Business College in 1936 with a degree in bookkeeping and shorthand and met the love of her life, Wilbert Boulet. The similarity of their first names makes many people smile in disbelief.
Wilberta, her husband and brother operated Ball’s Gulf Service Station in downtown Port Arthur in the 1950’s. She worked 25 yrs for Southern Union Gas Company, retiring in 1987.
Mrs. Boulet became a Christian as a young girl and served the Lord faithfully. Right after she married in 1936, she joined First Baptist Church and served as teacher to different age groups until she was 91 yrs old.
Wilberta enjoyed civic organizations and was an active member of BPW, the Quota Club and Port Arthur Founders Lioness Club and received many honors for her work including Woman of the Year for all 3 organizations. Her love of flowers gave her a reputation for decorating tables for banquets and special occasions. In her garage were huge collections of silk flowers stored by color or holiday.
Mrs. Boulet leaves behind many nieces and nephews including Julia Morris and her husband Gerald of Bridge City, Judith Wendel and husband Jack of Garland, Buddy Ball of Cypress, Lesa Wagner and husband John of Mansfield, Clint Morris and his wife Sherry and sons Travis and Jason of Bridge City, Kellie Miller and her husband Kenneth of Port Arthur, Nicole Chauvin, Keith and Tim Stansbury of Abbeville, La.
Pall bearers will be Gerald Morris, Clint Morris, Jack Wendel, Buddy Ball, Kenneth Miller, and Pat Brady. Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Port Arthur Founders Lions Club.
A gathering of family and friends will begin on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 12:00 p.m., with a Chapel Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
