Roy Roger Petersen

A native Texan, Roy grew up in Port Arthur, where he attended Jefferson High School. His parents Thomas and Alma Petersen settled in the Texas Gulf coast City of Port Arthur, where his father was a merchant tanker captain for the Texaco Company. Days spent aboard his father’s oil tanker, along with his parents and older sister Virginia, prompted Roy’s love for adventure. Roy served his Nation in the United States Navy and performed duty as Hospital corpsman. Following his tour of duty, Roy briefly attended the University of Texas at Austin and later settled and worked in Houston.

Roy loved adventure and the outdoors. He enjoyed yachting, sailing, flying, exploring, hunting, fishing, camping and was particularly interested in biological sciences, history, archeology and paleontology. He loved nature and the environment.

A private funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 11:00AM.

Roy is survived by his son Craig; daughter-in-law Cathy; and his grandson Kyle. He is predeceased by his father Thomas Petersen and mother Alma Petersen.
